General Studies

A program that rivals the best schools.

Each student is encouraged to strive for their personal level of academic excellence, taught at their own level and celebrated for their growth.

Mr. Ofier Sigal, General Studies Principal

Led by experience

34 years of education, one focus: your child.

Our General Studies Principal, Mr. Ofier Sigal, brings 34 years of experience in education, including leadership roles at North Shore Hebrew Academy, Mott Hall Charter School, New Visions Charter School for the Humanities and Solomon Schechter School of Queens.

He is known for data-driven decisions that identify the needs of every student, for bringing classrooms into the 21st century, and for an outstanding record in high school placement. Above all, he is a student advocate who embraces our individualized approach.

Our General Studies program

Curious minds, strong foundations.

We integrate General and Judaic Studies within a developmentally appropriate setting, encompassing language arts, music, science, art, drama and physical movement.

Literacy

Phonics, reading and writing workshops, supported by our literacy specialist. As one student told us, “She taught us how to love reading.”

Mathematics

Hands-on math centers build number sense, problem solving and confidence, from counting coins in kindergarten to multi-step reasoning.

Science & innovation

Building, experimenting and asking why. Students explore the natural world and design solutions with their own hands.

Social studies

Our community is our classroom: weekly MESA Wednesday trips for Kindergarten, visits from local leaders and projects that connect children to the world around them.

Technology

Purposeful use of interactive tools and tablets for practice and creation, always in service of learning.

Arts, music & movement

Art, music, drama and physical education are woven into the week, because creativity and play are how young children learn.

A culture of reading

Our brand-new library

Reading is at the heart of everything we do. Our brand-new library is stocked with English and Hebrew books, and our students spend time there every week.

Some students love reading so much that they give up their lunch period to join book club, and our reading challenges and enrichment groups give eager readers even more to explore.
