Holidays & traditions
Living the Jewish year together.
Our students learn our Sephardic traditions not only from books, but by living them, with their teachers, their classmates and their families.
Through the year
Our minhagim, our joy.
We embrace Mashadi and Sephardic minhagim, preserving our rich heritage for the next generation.

Elul & Tishrei
The High Holidays
Shofar in the classroom, learning about teshuva, and Yom Kippur explained by our students in their own words.

Sukkot
The Sukkah Hop
Our annual Sukkah Hop takes students from sukkah to sukkah across the neighborhood, hosted by MESA families.

Every Friday
Shabbat
Class Shabbat parties with candles, kiddush and challah, and Shabbat shalom calls to grandparents every Friday.

Kislev
Hanukkah
Candle lighting with our rabbis, a Hanukkah book fair, and the light of the menorah in every classroom.

Adar
Purim
Costumes, mishloach manot and simcha. In Adar, we increase in joy.

Nisan & Iyar
Pesach & Yom Yerushalayim
Preparing for the seder, and celebrating Yerushalayim and our love for Medinat Yisrael.
Sukkot 2026
Our 4th Annual Sukkah Hop was one for the books.
Students moved from sukkah to sukkah all over the neighborhood, eating, laughing and soaking up the holiday together. Thank you to every family who opened their sukkah and their hearts. This is what community looks like.

Milestone celebrations
Siddur and Chumash celebrations
Some of the proudest moments of a MESA childhood happen in front of family. At the First Grade Siddur Celebration, students receive the siddur they will daven from every day. Chumash celebrations mark the start of learning Torah inside the text.
These milestones connect our children to generations of Sephardic Jews who came before them, and to the community that surrounds them today.
